This is a digital matte painting I made of my hometown Mankato in the future. It's filled with numerous local landmarks and details representative of the present-day region. One reason I chose blue as the dominant color is due to the city being a part of Blue Earth County. I used an enormous amount of reference material to get a high level of realism, and of course did a lot of painting. I think it achieves a strong perspective and presence, and portrays an interesting mix architecture existing in harmony with nature.
